Taking into account the current unprecedented opportunities provided by the digital age, the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage has incorporated a digital heritage component to its projects. TCCH aims to take advantage of the universal and democratic nature of digital heritage to further safeguard cultural heritage for future generations by digitising and creating a digital archive of monuments, as well as an interactive digital learning environment. The development of digital resources promotes intergenerational communication, bridging the gap between the past and the present, enhances knowledge on Cyprus’ rich cultural heritage, while also contributing to youth engagement with the protection of cultural heritage.

During the covid 19 pandemic, the 360° virtual tour of the Othello Tower in Famagusta and the Othello Tower multiplayer online game were launched, providing opportunity to explore the wonders of this remarkable heritage site from home.

The project also included additional digital resources such as the 3D point cloud for Othello Tower with the use of terrestrial laser scanning technology and the Othello Tower VR interactive visualization environment through the use of rendering and natural lighting simulation of the point cloud.
In 2022, a series of virtual tours with the use of 360° photographic surveys of monuments was prepared for monuments across the island. Each virtual tour includes a number of interest points related to each monument, as well as historical information and audio. TCCH will continue this effort with digitalisation of more monuments selected from the list of cultural heritage sites conserved and protected through the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage.
